Target Holiday Hours

Verified 2026

Target permanently closes on Thanksgiving Day every year — a policy the company made official in 2021 after first trying it during the pandemic — and also closes on Christmas Day.

Why Target Closes on Thanksgiving Every Year

Target first closed its stores on Thanksgiving in 2020 to reduce crowding during the pandemic, then made the closure permanent in November 2021 after hearing from employees how much they valued having the day off. CEO Brian Cornell has publicly reaffirmed the policy in the years since, and Target has stayed closed on Thanksgiving Day every year since 2020 — with no plans to reopen.
