Publix closes for only three holidays a year — Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter — a policy the company says it has kept since its founding.
The Same Three Closures Since Publix Was Founded
Publix has stated on its own website: "Since our founding, we have been closed on these three holidays in observance of the holiday and to allow our associates time with family and friends." Those three full closures — Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter — have remained consistent for decades, even as the chain adjusts hours (closing early) on New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Christmas Eve.
