7-Eleven Holiday Hours
7-Eleven's whole identity is built around always being open — and unlike most retailers, that includes the holidays that shut down almost everyone else.
Why 7-Eleven Stays Open on Holidays
7-Eleven's name itself comes from its hours: founded in 1927 as Tote'm Stores, the company renamed itself 7-Eleven in 1946 to reflect its then-unusual 7 AM to 11 PM operating hours, at a time when most stores closed by 5 or 6 PM and were shut on Sundays entirely. Starting in 1963, many locations began staying open 24 hours a day. That always-open identity has carried through to today: most 7-Eleven stores remain open on every major holiday, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. That said, 7-Eleven operates on a franchise/licensing model, so corporate guidelines aside, individual store owners have some discretion — a small number of locations, especially in smaller towns, may not run 24/7 or may adjust hours on major holidays.
Most 7-Eleven locations that normally run 24 hours continue to do so on holidays. However, 7-Eleven operates on a franchise/licensing model, so a small number of locations — especially in smaller towns — may not be 24-hour stores or may adjust hours on major holidays. Check your specific store if you're planning a very early, late, or holiday visit.
